When I first got the project heading, I thought of gathering data of Turkish speakers within the world, I would show the increase of the number from the year 1990 (my birth year) to 2013. I started my research and found some interesting numbers.
I looked at the population of Turkey, the population of the World and the population of Turkish speakers in the world.
After doing that I also considered looking into the very beginning of the Turkish civilization, I looked into the risa and the fall of the Ottoman Empire and found some interesting data.
I then realized this data may not be very interesting so started to look at the spread of Turkish people within the world, which countries they immigrated to after wars, which countries have largest population of Turkish people and the growth of the Turkish within the globe.
75,627,384 Turkish people in Turkey
85% of Turkey speak Turkish

I then thought of making this piece more historical, rather than just having the Turkish settled countries left on the map, I would map out the countries that had been overtaken by the Ottoman Empire and then remove the rest of the world and be left with only the shape that would have been the Ottoman Empire
So with this information I would use a world map and cut out all the countries that does NOT have Turkish citizens settled in them, the map would then show a different shape, instead of the known continents outlines.
Below is a list of cities that were conquered by the Ottoman Empire and the year in which they were conquered:
Below are images of the Ottoman Empire's expansion during 1300 and 1683, I will use these to be able to map out my design and cut each conquered city/country on a new sheet/board. This way I will show the expansion by adding the next piece on top of the one before.
For my final idea I will 'wipe out' all the countries in the world and leave only the places that were conquered by the Ottoman Empire.
The final piece will be a 3D replica of what the world wou;d have looked like if it was only occupied by the places conquered by the Ottoman Empire
